Creams and Whites and Ironstone

Lately, my decorating taste has leaned toward the subtle shades of cream and white.  I guess this would explain my renewed attraction to ironstone.  I say renewed because I loved ironstone even in my early days of housekeeping.  I hate to think how long ago that was, but you can probably guess when I tell you I had a set of Johnson Brothers Heritage Ironstone.  I am sorry to say I sold that entire set in a garage sale.  All I can say is, I hope the lucky recipient is cherishing it now.

I found these two pieces at a local antique store.  They weren't a set, but I loved them together.

Inspired by my new -- old ironstone, I added some things I already owned, some old, some not so old.

Another item in my vignette that is very old is the pitcher.  It originally came with a large bowl that it fit in, but the bowl has disappeared over time.

The books were an afterthought.  I love the look of old books with the binding worn off, but instead of searching and buying these at an antique store or specialty shop, I tore the binder off a few books that weren't that important to me and got the same look.

  1. You had me hooked when I saw the ironstone and lace - one of my favorite combinations. I think we all have regrets on some treasure we gave away. Love the tulips in the other post. In the grocery store I found a bunch of coral-dyed carnation buds in the clearance bin. The florist said no one wanted carnation buds. I took them home stuck them in a vase. They have brightened my day for two weeks gradually opening.

  5. I also have sold many things in yard sales and regretted it later.
The lace with the ironstone is a pretty combination!
    Stay warm!

  6. I LOVE this bowl! So delicate. I have one like it, sans lid:( Funny how our taste can change over the years! Mine has, too. Thanks for stopping by!

I, too, am finding new vintage pieces to work into my Traditional decor.
I agree that our "tastes" evolve over time!!!

  10. Beautiful Marsha! I really have no ironstone. Would love some and am keeping my eye out, but so far no luck. Yours is lovely and makes a gorgeous vignette with the lace and pitcher. I'm sure whoever bought your ironstone loves it! I cherish all of the wonderful treasures I find. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  11. Oh, I forgot to tell you that I had my dried Hydrangeas in some blue bottles and my 4 year old grandson said, "Grammy, these flowers are rere, rere old". That's how he says really. It made me laugh. Seeing yours reminded me of how cute he was.

  12. I got into a white on white, cream and white kick last summer and it hasn't lost it's hold on me so this post is super appealing to me. I grinned like mad reading your comment on the Johnson Bros Heritage dish set - I had been thinking of my set and regretting selling it off at a yard sale. What WERE we thinking? This post ties into a post I'm working on so I'd like to feature it as my pick of the week for SYC. Please let me know if you object to me using a small picture with the link back to your site. So glad to find your lovely blog at SYC. I'm your newest follower.
